Briza maxima
Briza is one of 650 genera in the grass (Poaceae) family. ‘Briza’ is Greek and means to nod or sleep and refers to the nodding spikelets. ‘Maxima’ means large and refers to the spikelets. 'Briza maxima' is native to the Mediterranean region. This is hardly a weed in some places and is grown ornamentally or commercially.
